This wide brim perforated Panama is part of a collection made with a UK clothes designer. Our weavers were asked to create an intricate pattern in the brim to showcase their weaving while creating a wide brimmed piece. The wide brimmed hats are usually woven by a number of weavers in the family. One to start the crown, another to continue the body of the hat, and another to complete the edges. The hat has been blocked in the UK into a trilby style shape making it popular as a modern hat with a beautiful perforated weave pattern. This hat is finished with a horse hair band which is made by a family of artisans in Ecuador, near Quito who have been making horse hair bands for us for over 20 years. The horses are managed by grooming and the hair is used to make these bands humanely, using a waste product to create fantastic hat trims.
